I always dug the way David's fills sounded kinda rushed. It's not impossible to replicate a beat, but it's damn near impossible to replicate another drummer's feel and sense of time. That's why bands like Korn, Slipknot, Slayer, Lamb of God, etc. sound different. I thought all of those drummers had job security because of how unique they sounded. I guess the bands had other ideas!

So what made them undeniable (and makes them special even to this day) is that Korn is like Voltron. They are came together to make something gigantic. Fieldy plays the bass percussively like no one else, David’s drumming was groovy and powerful yet intricate and creative, Munky ( most underrated member imho) is the most eclectic of the bunch and makes some of the most creative and unique sounds to come out of the guitar (check out Venera, much of that is his guitar), Head is melodically gifted and a true metal savant, and Jonathan is a freak of nature in terms of vocal range, delivery, and bravery.

Dude, I was at that concert in Fargo the night his wrist gave out. They had four mannequins dressed up in jumpsuits and mounted on the ceiling waaay up there so it was hard to see them. When the song stopped and the lights went out I thought that they were going to lower the mannequins into the crowd or do something along those lines. When the lights came on they were on stage and that’s when they made the announcement. I moved to Denver a few months later and unfortunately never got to go back to see them play again even though I held onto the ticket stub. It was a nights of firsts for me:)

Dave is one of my reasons to pick up sticks and love that he was there by the set recovering. Grooves everything phenomenal. Saying that. Saw KoRn with Ray with the same attitude you all have which you should. He played the songs and rimshotted a stick 15-20 feet in the air, caught said stick and kept going during his drum solo. When I saw them with Alice and chains and I was like ok. Heart will always love Dave but Ray rocks some shit. But agreed those first few albums? Dave without question.

Korn will never have David back and David would never want to come back to Korn. This is also part of the band’s progression since having Ray, because he delivers a much more modern sound whilst David is not as technically proficient and sticks to his 90s groove. I think maybe he misconstrues peoples comments about David like he's not skilled. Nobody is arguing that Ray isn't skilled. Nobody said that ever. But the way David plays and his stylistic chops just fit with Korn. That groovy shit and those tinkery hits every now and then just....fit. You can hear it in Davids bass drum parts, the ghost notes, all that shit just vibes way fuckin different. With the way Korns been doing new albums since Ray has been in the band, while it is Korn in the sense that they still at least have head and munky and fieldy and john providing their unique twists, you gotta understand in the 90s EVERYTHING about this band was unique and twisted up including the drummer. It wasn't no basic shit. It felt like a hip hop groove, it felt jazzy, and funky. It didn't feel like another metallica band or another hair metal band and that basic ass predictable drumming. It just all glued together nicely. Now if Ray could learn how to break his conventions and just FORGET METAL, just forget traditional metal entirely and find some groove and even hip hop I'd co-sign him. But Korns replacement drummer is no where near as effective on the overall sound of the band as slipknots replacement drummer. When slipknot replaced their drummer it was like they put joey in a time machine and swapped his face around, like theres NO difference in how they play which is crucial when you hear a slipknot song it has to be right. If it isn't hitting the right way fans will notice, and if it continues to hit the wrong way fans will walk away.

David used to use Vater Nightsticks which are massive tree trunks. They were quite long too which contributed a lot of weight. Those type of sticks, especially as you get older can really do some damage to your forearms and wrists especially. So that could’ve been a major factor to his wrist problem and the beginning of the end for him in Korn.

Nah you ever have a sports injury? I had a torn ligament after lifting 55lb barbell for 30 years. One day I couldn't even life like 20lbs without extreme pain. It took me about 3-4 months to recover. Now I'm 54 and still curl 55lb barbells from a seated position. KORN had so many dates set up and tickets sold how could they wait 3-4 months for him to heal?

While Ray is probably a better overall drummer, David really set the tone of drumming of that era. I would love to see him back in the band.

Same with Guns N Roses.. Matt Sorum was technically a better drummer than Steven Adler but Steven and his style fit the band better. Played on possibly the best rock album ever made

TakerAMD I love Korn, and I’ve also seen Korn with David. But there’s a reason why David’s not in the band. From the moment I met Ray, I knew he was a better fit. So although I understand your opinion, you do not speak for all of us!
