Old korn fans hate this song for being different than their old stuff, but fail to realize THATS what made korn so popular to begin with. nu metal was a revolution in metal. That kind of music was never done before. It took them 26 years to do it again with PoT. They recieved a lot of hate at first, but ive never actually heard in person somebody hating this song... It helps that Skrillex - prior to his solo career - was actually in the rock/metal scene. Namely he was the Rhythm Guitarist and a Vocalist on From First to Last's 2nd and 3rd studio releases (first release was technically an EP) He actually has been with that band again since 2017 it looks like. I think it's fairly common for producers to have a broad background or at least listen to a broad spectrum of music even if they've never worked in that genre before.

For people saying "this isn't metal"... GEEZ! The whole point of Korn were to be pioneers of metal, to experiment with sounds, and to change over time, not keep the same old sounding bullcrap for every record! Their whole purpose was to experiment! This is definitely experimentation, and hey, it doesn't sound too bad! In fact, it sounds amazing.

+Pikaboss EVERY band, and I mean EVERY band expands their sound over time. They morph. They keep their roots, but they evolve. They change. It's the way things work. Nobody is going to listen to music if it's ALL THE SAME. Admittedly, some change is good, and sometimes the changes bands make isn't for the better, but all in all, you have to admit that any band that's been out for years is going to make changes to their sound even if its just small things

If your a metal fan bashing on korn for going with a dubstep metal mixed sound, I think your probably being a purist...for no reason. Korn has never been heavy metal. They have been heavy, they have been metal here and there, but they’ve always never fit particularly into the heavy metal genre. The dubstep seems like a natural progression to experiment with their particular sound. If there was one band I could think dubstep would work with, it would be korn. Don’t hate on them for experimenting, even if it’s just not for you. This is how music expands its horizons. Do any of you think heavy metal would be where it is today if Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, etc hasn’t experimented with melding genera? Great job on korn, for experimenting with heavy music, and heavy techno, this song turned out great

+TheDukeOfJon It's not about genres. Nobody gives a shit what label you give to it. It's about how it sounds. Some people simply don't like how this sounds like. The elements they don't like in it happen to be fundamental to a certain genre. People bitch a lot about it in relation to this particular song, because the people who don't like the dissonating parts, in the same breath recongize how good a song it is, possibly the best Korn song in a log time. They bitch about because they are disappointed that such a good song is not enjoyable for them, because sounds they don't enjoy, are in it absolutely without a function. They bitch about it because was this song released several years earlier or later, the parts they don't like wouldn't be in it.

Man I remember when this song came out, one of the few CDs I actually bought before iTunes entirely ruined the music industry. I remember it blowing the minds of metals and dub heads alike. Truly and underdog song of it's time. With even better lyrics than most songs. Miss these days,

Are you kidding me? If you think iTunes ruined the music industry then you must not know anything about the music industry. Or at least not the aspect of it you’re currently speaking on. iTunes did nothing to the music industry. The downfall you’re talking about was the result of piracy in the 00’s and by the time this came out, everything was being torrented. Literally every single album was leaked before it even came out and record sales plummeted massively. iTunes had absolutely nothing to do with anything besides provide digital sales to an artist’s overall sales.

Really don't understand why this gets so much hate it's bold and over the top and ridiculous and everything that metal should be. It's not like Korn were selling out and becoming a dubstep band they were trying something new for 1 album, pretty sure Jonathan has always been into electronica and EDM anyway. Anyway I think this album is killer

Back in my day they called this industrial metal. It included bands like ramstein, nine inch nail, KMFDM, ministry and other bad ass bands. It's just a different flavor of metal. Enjoy it! It's a refreshing effervescent sound for the ears!
@Wernershnitzl5 жыл бұрын
Jason Reynolds I’m 50/50 with you on this. I think this is very close to industrial metal but just personal opinion it doesn’t quite have that “grit” that other industrial metal bands have. Recently been listening to a lot of old and new Fear Factory so I got some example to backup my claim. Don’t get me wrong though, Path of Totality is actually one of my favorite Korn albums tbh it was my jam the latter part of high school for me.

Not sure what's the big deal with the hate coming in from the older fans. So they wanted to add a bit of a twist to their music, so what. You like their old stuff, stick with it. You don't like their new stuff, whatever dude. There's only so much you can do with such a unique sound before everything becomes the same song (coughevanescencecoughcough) (aight, they still pull out a few gems here and there) But seriously, if you don't like it, get over it.
